VALTELLINA WINES CA' BIANCHE

A long family tradition

The long tradition began when Davide’s grandfather inherited a vineyard from his mother. He therefore began making wine, but only for the family to drink, or for bartering for other primary necessities.
60's
Davide’s grandfather continued to tend the vineyard with the occasional help of his son - Davide’s father - who worked in Switzerland and was only around at weekends.
90's
With time, and as his grandfather’s strength waned, Davide gradually learnt the secrets of the trade, and his passion for the tradition, and for producing grapes on the mountain terraces, grew and grew. However, at that time his main job was in Switzerland; the time had not yet come for him to give up everything else and focus only on the vineyard.
2005
With the money he had saved while working in Switzerland, Davide was able to build the Casa Vinicola Cà Bianche, constructed around the old vaulted cellar, and he continued to grow apples and grapes.
2010
A few years later Davide suffered the sad loss of his grandparents. By that time, output was about 6 thousand bottles, as well as 1500 of the first Rosso di Valtellina. The modernisation of vine cultivation methods was begun, leading to a reduction in crop size with a consequent improvement in quality.
Between 2017 and 2018
Mid-1900s
During the era of smuggling, the vineyard was expanded through a new purchase, and output also grew. The result was Azienda Agricola Bana Giuseppe, a farm which also produced hundreds of litres of wine: the surplus over and above the family’s own needs was sold to the local wineries.
Between the 70s and 80s
After gaining his high school diploma, Davide started to help his grandfather in the vineyard, while also continuing his studies. His father was still working over the border.
2000
Then came the decisive year: his grandfather retired, and handed over the business to Davide. The two hectares of land, comprising a vineyard and an apple orchard, were now his responsibility.
Between 2007 and 2010
Another change in direction occurred when he decided to focus mainly on wine-making. He purchased new land to expand output: in his first vintage, in 2011, he produced about 2 thousand bottles.
2015
In the last few years, the winery has produced about 9 thousand bottles under four labels from its about three hectares of vineyards.
