Production

La Tena Riserva Valtellina Superiore is made with grapes from vines with a history of over 50 years of careful tending. A symbol of tradition, inherited from Davide’s paternal grandfather, that merges passion and sacrifice. Tena is named after its vineyard, which stands at Tirano about 650 metres above sea level, with an exposure to the sun that guarantees a wide temperature variation during September and October, vital for the wine’s bouquet and elegance.

Processing

The grapes are harvested towards the end of October and taken to the cellar, where the alcoholic fermentation takes place in a completely natural way, without the addition of selected yeasts. After about 40 days of maceration, the wine is removed from the skins and left for two months in stainless steel tanks, where malolactic fermentation takes place. It is then decanted into 10 hl French and Slovenian oak barrels, where it ages for 36 months. It then matures further in the bottle.

Colours and bouquet

This process gives us La Tena Riserva Valtellina Superiore, with ruby red colour tending to bright garnet and a bouquet of berries – blackberries and raspberries – and ripe fruit, with spicy notes. Its tannin level is typical of Nebbiolo, and acquires elegance from its lengthy cask ageing. A bouquet of unique fragrances and flavours is achieved, embodying the character of the Valtellina itself.
