La Malpaga, 14 degrees for our Rosso di Valtellina doc.
A wine with a ruby red color and hints of red fruit and flowers aged in… amphora!
History tells us how terracotta amphorae were used since ancient times for the preservation of food and drinks.
Yes, we too have chosen the amphorae for the refinement of the Rosso di Valtellina!
Impruneta terracotta amphorae, not vitrified, totally natural.
The first experiment was in 2017 when I decided to look for something different, a “medium” that would help me create a wine that best expresses the characteristics of mountain Nebbiolo but in the meantime rounds off the angularity of the tannin typical of Nebbiolo young.
Unlike wood, terracotta does not release aromas and does not change the organoleptic aspect of the wine, in this way the identity of Nebbiolo is expressed at 100%.
And since the experiment was successful in 2018, the amphorae became two!
